The Collector, V. Rajaraman, on Thursday appealed to farmers to adopt integrated weed management techniques to get rid of parthenium.

Inspecting the ongoing pre-season activities of the Department of Agriculture at South Venganallur village in Rajapalayam taluk, Mr. Rajaraman said that hand weeding was the best way to remove parthenium from farms, parks, barren lands and other places of public congregation. While adopting manual removal of the plant, care should be taken to prevent skin allergies, the Collector said. According to an official press release, the Collector also advised the farmers about the pesticides to be used to control diseases in blackgram and turmeric.
