The Tamil Nadu Milk Producers’ Association has urged Aavin to take steps for procuring the entire milk supplied by the primary milk producers’ cooperative societies.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, K. Mohammad Ali, general secretary of the Association, said that the respective district milk producers unions were refusing to collect the entire milk being supplied by the primary milk societies.

Much of the milk gets split due to the delay in transporting it to the chilling plants. Due to this indifferent attitude of the officials, the primary milk societies suffer heavy financial loss.

This development was brought to the notice of the State Dairy Development Minister on May 2. The Minister assured to procure the entire stock of milk supplied by the primary milk societies. Despite the Minister’s assurance, the situation of district milk unions refusing to procure the entire stock of milk is continuing across the State. This has led to resentment among a large section of farmers, Mr. Mohammad Ali said.

At present, the private dairies have reduced the milk procurement price by Rs. 2 per litre. He alleged that the Aavin officials were procuring the milk from private dairy farmers. Due to this, the milk procurement of Aavin has increased to 30 lakh litres per day.

He urged the Aavin to augment its procurement capacity by 50 lakh litres per day as a first step and should also stop procuring the milk from the private dairy farmers. The government should initiate action against the Aavin officials who were hand in glove with the private dairy farmers.

Mr. Mohammad Ali warned that farmers will indulge in serious agitations across the State, if there was no improvement in the milk procurement situation.
