The suspected Lashkar-e- Taiyaba (LeT) operative, Mohammad Salim, who was arrested from New Delhi railway station on Tuesday was enrolled in the Arabic department of Lucknow University from 2003 to 2005 and is a resident of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir. His real name, according to the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh police, is Mohammad Aslam, son of Haji Latif.
A team of the ATS met the LU authorities on Wednesday after preliminary investigations in Delhi revealed his links with the university. The police is trying to find out his place of residence in the State capital, or whether he stayed in the hostel.
The Additional Director General of Police ( Law and Order ), Brij Lal said here today that Mohd. Aslam took admission in LU in 2003 for pursuing his Master’s degree in Arabic. He passed out in 2005, the UP police officer told reporters. The LeT operative’s student’s identity card carried the number 162393.
Mr. Lal said his student’s ID card seized by the Delhi police was computer generated and fake though it also mentioned his actual name, Mohd. Aslam. The ADG ( Law and Order ) said Aslam was not involved in a terrorist act in Lucknow, or in the State.
