Taking a grim view of the slow pace of supply of documents to the accused in the 2G spectrum case, the special court on Tuesday warned the CBI that it would start fining the agency Rs.50,000 a day if it did not supply all the remaining documents submitted along with the two charge sheets within three days.

On June 1, advocates for the accused had complained before Special Judge O. P. Saini that the CBI had told them that all “relevant” documents in the case would be given to them.

The advocates took exception to this and wondered how the prosecution could decide what documents were relevant for the defence.

Mr. Saini also asked the defence to speed up the scrutiny of documents to enable the case to proceed to arguments on charges. On Monday, the judge had directed the CBI Investigating Officer to deploy two or three more officials for preparing photocopies to hasten the supply process.

Meanwhile, Cineyug Films promoter Karim Morani moved an application detailing the problems he was facing because of the heat and dust in Tihar Central Jail. The court asked the jail superintendent to address the issue as per the jail manual.
