Bus driver, conductor and five associates gang-raped the woman
The police of Gurdaspur district in Punjab have arrested six of the seven persons, who allegedly gang-raped a 29-year-old woman on Friday night.
A local court has remanded them to three days in police custody.
The incident is a grim reminder of the Delhi crime and placed a question mark on the security of women in public transport, despite major announcements by the State government.
The complainant, who belongs to a village under Kahnuwan police station, said she had boarded the bus from her parental home in Pathankot to reach her in-laws. But the driver, Daler Singh, and the conductor, Ravi, took her to a house near Gurdaspur city, where five of their associates joined them and assaulted her.
Later Daler Singh allegedly dumped her near her in-laws’ place, from where she walked home and then approached the police. After her medical examination and preliminary inquiry, the police registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC.

Why did the police reveal the victim's name and age to the media? This
is after all the discussion and effort to respect the privacy of the
sufferers of sexual assault. Do the police not read the papers - do
they have any legal literacy at all? This latest news kills the last
bit of hope I had that things may change in India. How can we join the
ranks of the developed world when women are at such high risk of
violent attack, attacks that are group-orchestrated and carried out
with such utter confidence? Although our technological achievements
have surged ahead of our social development, could we please realize
that smart phones and sleek malls are not the hallmarks of civic
evolution. Respect for law and one's fellow citizens are what mark a
society as developed. We have little to no chance of ever getting
there, certainly not as long as women are treated as pieces of flesh
to be used and abused with impunity.
From the report it appears that the victim was the only passenger and the driver and the conductor took her to a house where a further five men joined them and raped the woman. It is a pity that our innocent village people are so trusting that unscrupulos miscreants take advantage and perpetrate the most hideous and heinous crimes against them.
If found guilty they should get the death penalty. For Rape change the law and hang these social misfits. Why feed them at tax payers money for years in jail. In a over populated country like India such misfits should be got rid off for ever to make room for others.
where are the Khap panchayat now, who say that a woman should be married to protect her. Even if her husband was traveling with her, he could have been easily beaten up by 6 men.
