The birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, was observed in Tashkent where he passed away in January 1966 shortly after signing an accord with Pakistan.

On Sunday, Uzbek dignitaries, children from a nearby school, and staff of the Indian Embassy gathered at the Shastri Memorial in Tashkent and offered their tribute to the second Prime Minister of India in a simple but impressive ceremony.

Indian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Gitesh Sarma highlighted Shastri's achievements as Prime Minister, and his commitment and dedication to serve the nation. He also expressed gratitude to the people of Tashkent for remembering Shastri every year. It showed the closeness between the people of India and Uzbekistan, he said.
