The sighting of an eight-foot-long python on the Yamuna river banks where the ‘Chhath Puja’ rituals were being performed by thousands of devotees caused mayhem on Wednesday. Wildlife SOS, a Delhi-based NGO , was contacted and the reptile rescued safely.
“A specialist rescue team was sent that safely removed the reptile,” said Kartick Satyanarayan, Wildlife SOS co-founder.
The incident was reported around 7 a.m. The rescue team observed that the python had sustained some injuries which could have been caused due to stoning by onlookers.
“The python is currently under rehabilitation and will be released into its natural habitat once its injuries are healed and the animal is certified fit for release by the Wildlife SOS,” he said.
