Based on the responses received in the past two days to a referendum, the Aam Aadmi Party on Friday claimed there was “overwhelming support and pressure” from the public in favour of its forming a government in Delhi with outside support from the Congress.

Senior leader Manish Sisodia told journalists that people wanted the party to form a government. However, a final call would be made by the party on Sunday evening when the gathering and analysis of public response concluded.

AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal is likely to meet Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday. Somnath Bharti, the party MLA from Malaviya Nagar, told The Hindu that his constituency on Friday gave a thumping “yes” to the AAP forming the government. Over nine lakh people have sent their opinion to the party through SMS, phone calls and social media. More than 70 per cent of them were in favour of the AAP forming the next government, a party leader said.
