The one-man probe committee headed by Justice Mukul Mudgal met senior executives of retail giant Walmart and its joint venture partner Bharti Group on Friday, and sought information on the joint venture’s lobbying in India. During the meeting , the JV was asked to provide information on the queries raised by the probe committee which had been set up to investigate whether Walmart undertook any lobbying activities in contravention of Indian law.

The committee has asked both companies to submit their responses as soon as possible before proceeding further with the probe. “After discussions, it was decided to await responses of the above companies to the queries raised by the committee,” the Corporate Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
