Blowing bugle of his election campaign for the upcoming parliament byelections, National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Saturday described it as “a battle that would define and measure the strength of people in resisting BJP and RSS’ tyrannical onslaught in J&K.”

Addressing a gathering in Beerwah, Dr. Abdullah said, “It is vital to defeat RSS and its local affiliates, who have always harboured an ambition to subvert the State’s political rights and special status.”

Dr. Abdullah, who is contesting from Srinagar Lok Sabha seat on April 9, said the bypolls present a vital opportunity for both people as well as NC “to valiantly defend the State from those who have propped up their Trojan horses among our ranks to fragment us on the basis of region and religion”.

“Make no mistake about the fact that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is BJP and BJP is PDP. Their candidates for these by-polls are in fact the proxy candidates of the BJP and the RSS and come with their blessings and support from the highest levels,” said Dr. Abdullah.

Speaking on the occasion, NC working president Omar Abdullah accused the PDP of “failing to bring anything to the Valley but bloodshed, strife and oppression”.

“The PDP opposed pellet-guns when in the Opposition. Now it is using pellet guns to blind and maim hundreds of our youth but has also chosen to increase the number of pellet guns,” said Mr. Abdullah.

PDP candidate for Anantnag parliamentary constituency Tasaduq Mufti on Saturday said he “will fight for truthfulness.”
