A big tragedy was averted on Monday when the Gadchiroli police recovered powerful explosives from a canal on the Bhamragad- Lahiri road in Gadchiroli.
These explosives were recovered during the visit of Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police (SP) Suvez Huque and district collector Abhishekh Krishana to Bhamragad, according to some sources.
Gadchiroli police PRO Mr.Pathan confirmed that the SP was in Bhamaragad on Monday.
A team of Gadchiroli police and a bomb detection squad recovered IED of 20 kg, two detonators, a booster and cortex from the canal near Kumarguda forest on Monday afternoon, said Gadchiroli police.
Apart from the District Collector and the SP, additional SP of naxal operations, Rahul Seth was also in Bhamragad on Monday, said some sources.
According to the police, the explosives were recovered when the bomb squad and a special police team were conducting “the road opening”. Road opening is done to detect the complete road of landmines and explosives planted in the road by the Maoists.
According to some official sources who wished to remain anonymous, 20 kg of I.E.D. could destroy four big trucks in few seconds and “such big explosives must have been planted for someone very important”.
However PRO Mr. Pathan refused to comment on whether the explosives were meant for the SP and the Collector.
According to the Additional SP of Gadchiroli Mr. Trimukhe, the explosives were meant for the CRPF and SRPF change-over that happens after every six months. “There is only one road to Bhamragad, so the explosives might have been meant for the changeover parties of these paramilitary forces” Mr.Trimukhe told The Hindu over phone.
