Stating that evidence was being collected on fresh charges filed against former Haryana DGP S.P.S. Rathore, Panchkula Police on Wednesday said any further action in the molestation case will be taken only after the completion of a detailed investigation.

Two FIRs were registered against 67-year-old Mr. Rathore on Tuesday on the basis of complaints by the victim’s father and brother regarding the alleged tampering of the post-mortem report by the police and harassment of the victim’s brother including an attempt to murder him.

“Investigations are on [in connection with the two FIRs registered last night]. We will collect evidence, including oral, before taking any further action,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Maneesh Chaudhary said.

“Action against whosoever is guilty will be taken only after that [completion of investigation]”, he said, in response to a query on whether any action against Mr. Rathore was expected immediately.

Mr. Rathore faces imminent arrest as the local District Sessions Judge S P Singh did not give the DGP any relief in the form of interim bail after his wife’s counsel Abha — while seeking anticipatory bail — told the court they did not have copies of the fresh FIRs and came to know of the charges only from the media.

The noose around the former Haryana top cop found guilty of molesting the14-year-old girl (who later committed suicide) tightened on Tuesday night with the police registering two FIRs and moves were afoot to file a fresh case of abetment of suicide.

Immediately after the verdict, Mr. Rathore and his wife left the court premises in a private vehicle without answering any questions from the media.

To repeated queries from the media at the gate of his residence in Sector six, he said, “The day you satisfy me that you have the constitutional power to question me I will reply.”

His wife who was beside him, also did not take any questions.
