V. Narayanasamy, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, said on Saturday that the anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNP) agitation was being funded by foreign agencies.
“We've already started investigation to unmask the foreign agencies actually funding the ongoing agitation against KKNPP even after the nuclear reactors' safety has been ensured by installing futuristic state-of-the-art safety features,” he told reporters here.
The country, which would be in need of 4.50 lakh MW power by 2020, was generating only 1.5 lakh MW. Hence, to achieve this goal, it was executing the nuclear power generation programmes, like the U.S., which was getting 20 per cent of its power from nuclear reactors.
At the same time, Mr. Narayanasamy said, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, which was constructing the reactors with Russian assistance, had incorporated sophisticated safety equipment in the reactors of KKNPP though it consumed considerable time and money.
The Minister said the protest was going on even after distinguished scientist and former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, after his personal inspection of the plant, had certified that the KKNPP reactors with its safety features were the safest in the world. “However, a group of people were misguiding the people, particularly the fishermen, with false propaganda against the KKNPP as they wanted to cripple its commissioning. Since we suspect the involvement of the foreign agencies in the ongoing protest, we've ordered for a comprehensive probe to unmask the foreign groups that fund those who organise the protest. This is not really a protest being orchestrated by the people,” he charged.
When asked to name the foreign agencies funding the protestors, the Minister said: “You know everything”.

apart from all things, think about the peoples in idinthankari, who are fasting from many days for their life. think practically,if you're in their situation "what can you do?". If incident happened in koodankulam like in fukushima. What about future? "save them from nuclear waste and radiation." DROP KOODANKULAM POWER PLANT PROJECT AND FIND ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION,
Why center took so much time to realize this hard fact. This should have been done long back. In fact, one does not really need any great intelligence to unmask it,as simple common sense would suggest, whose interest is being served by scrapping the project. The so-called local people’s welfare, as propagated day in & out by the pseudo activists are only a façade! There were no such protests during the construction in last 10 years. Even after Fukushima incident in March 2011, they were no where to be seen on the scene & they all grandiously woke up just when the plant is to be made operational! It's said, there’s no foreign hand & local people are funding this, c’mon, who're we trying to fool! On one hand, it‘s said, local community, majority of them fishermen, are all off the seas since last 2 months! Due to bandhs & strikes, all shops in the region closed bringing the dawn-to-dusk business to grinding halt. Yet do they still have enough moolah for this misguided extravaganza.
For those wondering how come protests started late and how these fishermen can
understand the complexities of nuclear plant, it is not just the Fukushima incident, but the
free TV scheme of the DMK government that facilitated these people watch it in real time.
No amount of explanation or preaching can convince somebody as much a set of visual
images, that too on something similar to a facility within miles of their TV. You can call it
"law of unintentional consequences" or the karma that came from the coalition dharma of
the UPA.
It is an open secret that almost all NGOs, environmental and developmental activists receive lots of financial support from overseas sources. There are some domestic sources as well depending on the case one is fighting for. An average middle-class Indian, event o this day, does not easily give money to such public agitations, and even if some do, it is really miniscule. To organize such a large scale protests in the name of public causes, needs lots of money and that can only come outside the country, particularly the European NGOs and yes, even EU. Cold war may be over, but neo-colonial war is very much on. This is a fight between capitalism and socialism/communism fought on almost all fronts that affect human lives. EU is clearly in the proxy business of exporting its "agenda" against North America to other parts of the developing world. Similarly, funding sources of anti-agricultural biotech activists must also be investigated.
Unable to digest or counter the honest uprising in clamour of the affected people of the area, the government has started using the 'involvement of the foreign hand'slogan to thwart the genuine demand of the agitators to close down the Nuclear plant which is a life threat to them.It looks as if this is a prelude to make somebody a scape goat and walk over him / her to terrorise the agitators and make them give up their agitation. It is better the government senses the pulse of the protesters and concede their request without precipitating the issue. It is really unfortunate that one of the readers by name S.Vatsys has most inhumanly commented that the agitators should be treated as traitors.May be he does not know what is meant by treason!Let those who are agitating for the noble cause forgive him for his ignorance.
The Honourable Minister should have furnished concrete evidence before taking a pot shot at the anti-Koodangulam activists.People of India are also worried to know the foreign hand behind the 123 Agreement, despite the cost and disadvantages, being enacted forcibly and the result is only 3%of our needs being met with such high risk.
control population and india will solve energy crisis. population is a sever problem. no matter what degree of excellence in energy management is attained if population is not controlled there will be more need for energy leading to more destruction of nature and oppression of the poor villagers. india is a demonic capitalist state where in the name of democracy every exploitation is committed against the poor villagers especially the tribals and the dalits. how can it happen that none of the high rise buildings in cities are not demolished to build new industries while several villages are eliminated to give way to industries and mining?
I am told the participants are not only ferried to the location provided Briyani and a days wage. This needs money and someone"s planning and heading. The govt must, on priority investigate and book all connected to derail the project. We should not be hesitant to bring / induct force to clear the crisis, as the doubts have been cleared even by Dr. Kalam.
The peoples' power has reached explosive criticality with respect to Kudankulam nuclear power plant. Has the government's safety system any clue as to how this dangerous situation can be controlled? Time only will tell!
In Indira Gandhi era Government blamed to CIA for every agitation stated in India. This one was easy trick to divert public attendant from real issue. Now Manmohan government using foreign hand for every agitation. Using this trick government avoiding own responsibility. How can every time foreign hand interfere in our private affair?spreading tremendous corruption and people`s support to Anna`s fast is there any foreign hand?
Yes, the minister seems to be spot on. These kind of mass agitations are the handy work of foreign powers. We have seen similar agitations in the middle east and now they are trying to manipulate the people at large in India. The ministry has to resort to counter intelligence and shield our people from the propaganda being spread by these foreign powers. But the most important institution - the press has to stay clean and not get corrupted by these foreign powers. Kudos to The Hindu and its journalists for publishing this article.
Unfortunately our dear PM sees a foreign hand in everything he has no answer for . Even when the people of India were fighting an "anti-corruption " campaign under Anna Hazare , he said the same . Will this PM and the UPA , acknowledge the real mood of the people and find real answers instead of crying out " foreign hand " involvement each time .We have heard this "foreign hand " stories from the Congress many times in the past and it was always to digresss from the real issue at hand - that was of their own making and put the blame on some ghost or phantom forces.
Those who are leaders of agitation against the plant should be immediately arrested and charged for treason. Army is risking its life every day. Engineers from all over the country working in the plant will be in far more danger than people living out side. If there is a risk then that risk has to be taken by a citizen in the intterest of the nation, who ever refuses is a traitor
Quite obviously! anything with religious tones need to be seen. Thats why NGOs / Trusts which play around with public money should come under Lokpal Bill. These NGOs and Trusts must publish accounts and the donors names.
what do you mean by foreign hand? As a minister and from PMS's office you should talk with facts. You are condemning all the people with this kind of accusations without facts. you are lowering the office of PM. Please stop it.
those people who are agitating are simple fool getting immotionalise by some christian missionaries who alway denigrate indian, its culture and spread superstitions in the name of their book which have been made unscientic by their scientist, intelligent public is being preached to poor like hollywood story and financed with dollars,in western world ,where girl start prostitun at 12 years, family breakup rate is 70%,every second person is suffering from drug addiction, depression, rampant corruption is idealised as modern achievement science have given opulence but created vacuum in ethic, moralvalue, these people would not want indian to stand against super power, they want always shortage of powers, system, which may enlighten people and read ,understand their own history, the spirit of dharma, govt should take stern action and indulge them in open debate, even abdul kalaam have certified, who are these ignorant people to oppose and led astray billion dollars investment, they should be punished
There certainly seems to be foreign backing for the agitation at the nuclear power plant. Hundreds die each year in rail, road or air accidents around the globe but do we stop using rail etc. The safety record of nuclear plants is much better. India cannot afford not to have nuclear power and the Govt needs to take tough measures to end this agitation by those who seem determined to derail the country's economic progress.
It is the foreign powers like France and Russia which are behind promotion of the expensive and dangerous nuclear energy in India. They refused to take full responsibility for disasters. Ordinary people in Tamil Nadu have the right to protest the nuclear power plant and safeguard their native land. While China is massively promoting solar and wind energy, India is short sighted in pursuing the dangerous nuclear energy. Even Japan and Germany have plans to scrap all nuclear power plants. It is time Indian leaders wake up to the post-Fukushima understanding, scrap all plans to build new nuclear power plants and rapidly promote solar, wind and natural gas power plants.
The Indian government, instead of trying to blame foreign hands, should try to allay the fears of the people. It should replace the whole managemnt of KKNPP, with the new one. The incompetence, nore or less ignorance, the public relation fiasco of warning people to remain indoors, of this team which caused the protest. Also they should investigate why the concerns of the local populations were ignored for the last eight years? why so many small protests were going on for a long time, why they were ignored?
