In the backdrop of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s death in a helicopter crash, NCP is using the global positioning system to track movement of party chief Sharad Pawar as he tours Maharashtra for the October 13 Assembly elections.

“The portable GPS device tracks mobile signals and relays location, speed and altitude of the helicopter used by Mr. Pawar,” a state NCP functionary told PTI.

“The device is being used since last week and is kept with an aide accompanying Mr. Pawar on the flight,” he said.

The signals from the device are monitored at the party office.

The party had planned on using the gadget during the Lok Sabha elections this year and after the recent helicopter crash in which Reddy was killed, it decided to expedite use of the device.
