A woman police constable, posted in Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh, has accused a senior IPS officer of harassment.

The woman constable has written a letter to the district Superintendent of Police (SP) and made it available to the media accusing Bilaspur range Inspector General (IG) of Police, Pawan Dev, of allegedly making midnight calls to her, asking her to come to his bungalow and using indecent language.

She has also produced the audios of the purported conversations between her and the 1992 batch IPS officer to the media.

The Director General of Police (DGP), Chhattisgarh has formed a committee to investigate the allegations of the woman constable against the IG.

Mr. Dev, however, denied all the allegations and alleged a conspiracy by the constable as he suspended her “boyfriend” police inspector.

“The allegations against me are absolutely baseless and are being made with a deliberate attempt to malign my reputation. She shared a very close relationship with a police inspector whose service was terminated by me because of some reasons. I have evidence to prove this and I will submit it to the inquiry commission,” Mr. Dev told The Hindu .

The IG also claimed that the audios of the purported conversation between him and the woman constable were “forged”.

“The audios are absolutely doctored. Why has she made these allegations only after termination of the police inspector? Why did she not lodge a complaint against me earlier when a woman SP was posted in the district? She has also made similar allegations against a Sub-Divisional Police Officer as well,” claimed Mr. Dev and added that the copy of the woman constable’s complaint is yet to reach to National Women’s Commission or the DGP.

“One copy has been sent to the SP office and others were leaked to the media which shows the purpose was to defame me,” he added accusing the local media of running “false and one-sided stories” on the issue.
