Reacting to criticism from Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said “the watchman” would sell the country’s key to a few corporate houses.
Addressing a rally in Bemetara town in Durg Lok Sabha constituency of Chhattisgarh, Mr. Gandhi said: “Modi claims that the country witnessed no development in the last 60 years. He wants to teach us what development is. He says he will do in three months what was not done in 60 years. As if there was no development in this country before him...”
“Did Gujarat not witness any development for 60 years before Modi came? Did Amul not bring development in Gujarat?” a visibly aggressive Congress vice-president asked the crowd.
Targeting the BJP, Mr. Gandhi said the speeches of the saffron party leaders were “full of hatred” and asked the people to compare their speeches with that of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Applauding the PM for not seeking to brag about the work he had done, Mr. Gandhi said: “The PM believed in teamwork and never said only he did something.”
