VIP copter crashes

A Pawan Hans helicopter hired by the Punjab government crashed on Thursday at the Chandigarh airport immediately after take off. The pilot and his deputy suffered minor injuries.

At least four fire tenders were used to douse the flames. The rescue team had to break the window panes to pull out pilot S.P.S. Brar and co-pilot M.S. Brar. Both were rushed to the Western Command hospital, where the doctors declared them to be “out of danger.” While the cause for the mishap was not known, the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation ordered an inquiry.

The helicopter was proceeding towards Rajendra Park, opposite the official residence of the Chief Minister.
