The Margao Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court will pronounce the order on Wednesday on the
petition seeking directions to the Colva police in South Goa to register a case against absconding former Minister and MLA Mickky Pacheco under Section 172 of the Indian Penal Code for the offence of absconding to evade arrest.
The petitioner Aires Rodrigues, who is an advocate, argued in the court on Tuesday during a hearing that the police had taken only “cosmetic” steps to nab Mickky Pacheco. Though the police had stated that numerous houses were searched for Mr. Pacheco, Mr. Rodrigues pointed out that the police had not even taken out a single search warrant.
The advocate sought that a Court-monitored investigation of the case.
Nuvem MLA Pacheco who until April 3 was Rural Development Minister in Goa’s BJP-led government is now absconding almost three two weeks as he has to undergo a six month jail sentence imposed by the Bombay High Court at Goa for having in 2006 assaulted a Electricity department Junior Engineer Kapil Natekar. The petition was filed by Pacheco.
