U.P. govt presents tax-free budget

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday tabelled a tax-free deficit budget of over Rs. 1.53 lakh crore for 2010-2011 in the state Legislative Assembly.

The budget, which was presented by state’s Finance Minister Lalji Varma, proposes revenue receipts of over Rs 1.44 lakh crore in the next fiscal with an estimated loss of more than Rs. 11,000 crore.

The government has proposed no new tax in the annual budget.
