Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray is set to be formally elected president at the party’s national executive meet, scheduled to be held on January 23, said party sources on Monday. The meeting is to be held at Sena Bhawan, party’s headquarters at Dadar in central Mumbai, a senior leader told The Hindu.
The procedures to elect Mr. Thackeray as president would be followed as per the Election Commission guidelines, the sources said.
While Mr. Uddhav Thackeray would be elected president, patriarch Balasaheb Thackeray, who died in November last, would continue to bear the honorific of Shiv Sena pramukh (supremo).
In an interview in the party’s mouthpiece Saamana, Mr. Uddhav Thackeray had categorically stated that no one could replace Bal Thackeray as the Sena supremo.
