Two get 7 years’ jail for kidnap, murder in U.P.

A court here has sentenced two persons to seven years in prison and acquitted nine others in a 12-year-old case of murder and kidnapping.

Fast track court Judge Shyam Kumar also slapped a fine of Rs.20,000 on two convicts Ikram and Abbas, said District Assistant Government counsel Sajid Rana.

Nine other accused, including alleged gangster Sanjiv Jiva, were acquitted by the court for want of evidence.

On November 2, 2002, 14-year-old Pratik Diwan, son of Kolkata-based trader Rajesh Diwan was abducted for ransom and the driver of his car was shot dead near here while they were going to Delhi from Dehradun.

The abductors had demanded Rs.2 crore for the release of Pratik. The body of the driver, Tamesh Khurana, was thrown in Khatoli area of the district.The police had launched an operation and rescued Pratik. - PTI
