The police on Wednesday night secured the three-day remand of Editor-cum-proprietor of Dainik Ganadoot , Sushil Choudhury, over murder charges, ending days of dramatic events. The police also claimed to have seized vital evidence including blood-stained garments from his house.
Mr. Choudhury, suspected as mastermind in the gruesome murder of three employees inside the vernacular newspaper office on May 19, was produced in the court of West Tripura chief judicial magistrate.
Earlier in the day, a medical board discharged him from the intensive care unit at the G.B. Hospital, where he was admitted during his temporary confinement at Agartala central jail on Monday morning.
“The court granted our prayer for his police remand for three days. The case is very sensitive and the accused needs to be thoroughly interrogated to solve the case,” Assistant Public Prosecutor Tapan Saha told journalists.
The development occurred on a day the main Opposition party, the Congress, organised State-wide protests against the alleged interference in police investigation and attempts to ‘hush up’ the case. The party had demanded a CBI probe into the triple murder.
The CPI(M) strongly refuted the Opposition charge and said it never interfered in the police investigation.
