The Trinamool Congress members in the Lok Sabha alleged on Thursday that there was a conspiracy to “eliminate'' their leader Mamata Banerjee and demanded a probe into an accident involving a truck and a car in the convoy accompanying her to Kolkata from Lalgarh two days ago.
Raising the matter, Sudip Bandopadhyay said there were attempts even earlier to kill her. He wanted to know how a lorry could penetrate the convoy of Ms. Banerjee, who has Z-plus security, and hit a car carrying police officials that in turn hit the Minister's car.
“She is taking rest. She has not been hospitalised despite doctors' advice. You know she does not like to go to hospitals,'' Mr. Bandopadhyay said.
Basudeb Acharia of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said the truck driver was arrested and a CID inquiry ordered by the State government was already on.
But Trinamool Congress members shouted him down, leading to protests from their Left counterparts.
Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad tried to pacify the agitated members by saying that the House sent its good wishes to Ms. Banerjee and hoped that she should return to the House soon. “As soon as she returns, peace will return to the House.”
