The Naga Women's Union and the Rongmei Women's Organisation have submitted a memorandum on Thursday to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangbam Gangmei, who also holds Home portfolio, demanding suitable actions against the officers and personnel of 8 Gorkha Regiment deployed at Khoupum in Manipur. In a press statement these angry tribal women said that on Sunday the personnel under command of one Major Sachin had whisked away a farmer, Nailin Malangmei (54) since it was suspected that he was in the know of one militant.
When the farmer could not say anything useful about the militant he was allegedly blindfolded, subjected to water torture and beaten up.
Contending that it is against international law and violation of human rights, the organisations are demanding suitable actions against the officers and personnel. The farmer is said to be recuperating from the injuries sustained.
