October 10, 2010 02:05 am | Updated 02:05 am IST - IMPHAL:

The North-Eastern region, Manipur and Meghalaya in particular, has been experiencing heavy downpour since Wednesday as a result of the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.

The Met office forecast torrential rains till Monday. Many low-lying areas were inundated and private ponds overflowed. The polo ground in Meghalaya is also flooded.

Manipur has been experiencing 50 mm to 60 mm rainfall..

Normal life has been disrupted since all markets and many residential areas have been inundated.

There is very thin attendance in the schools — many of which have been closed down — and offices in the hill stations in the State.

The Health Department has been asked to rush medical teams to the hill stations due to outbreak of diseases.
