Three militants of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-Daimary) were arrested in Assam's Sonitpur district, the police said on Saturday.

They were rounded up during an operation launched by the police and personnel of the fourth battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry on Friday. A 7.62-mm bolt action Japanese rifle and 15 rounds of ammunition were seized. The militants admitted to their involvement in extortion and looting since 2002, the police said.

Logs seized

Assam Rifles seized 170 logs of wood, worth Rs 1.7 lakh, at Sirsabari. The police said the NDFB (Daimary) was trading illegally in logs to raise funds. The logs were handed over to the Dhekiajuli Range Forest Office.
