Three persons have died after the landslide swept away their house at Zonuam in Aizawl, a senior police officer said on Monday even as heavy downpour triggered fresh mudslides in some parts of Mizoram.

While an 82-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries in the Aizawl Civil Hospital on Monday morning, two others of a family -- Lalthlengliani (39) and her daughter Emily Lalhmangaihzuali (13) -- died on the spot during the landslide on Saturday night, Aizawl district SP Lalhuliana Fanai said on Monday.

Meanwhile, heavy downpour triggered fresh mudslides in many places across the State including blocking of the road from Aizawl to the lone Lengpui Airport and Aizawl to south Mizoram’s Lunglei road, a State official said.

Clearing of the roads using excavators resulted in opening the Airport approach road while the NH-54 linking Aizawl with Lunglei remained blocked till now, the official added. - PTI
