Three drowned, thirty rescued after boat capsize

Three persons drowned and 31 others were rescued after a boat capsized in Matla river in South 24-parganas district on Wednesday, police said.

After the boat sank, villagers of nearby areas rescued 31 persons and fished out two bodies while the boatman was missing. Five persons were admitted to hospital where one died. Condition of two was critical, the police said.

The deceased were identified as Anwara Mistry, Aftabuddin Mondal and Selim Mondal.

The boatman remained traceless. Search will continue tomorrow. The boat was ferrying passengers from Jharkhali to Kultali.
