Three persons have been arrested in connection with the attack on mediapersons near Pirakata in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district allegedly by CPI(M) cadre.

The three were arrested last night, Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Verma said on Saturday.

The three were identified as Panchanan Mahato, Ajit Mahato and Shaktipada Mahato, police sources said without specifying whether they had any political affiliation.

Six journalists and TV crew were injured in the attack allegedly by CPI(M) cadre near Pirakata, close to the Maoist-stronghold of Lalgarh, yesterday.

The injured media-persons of ‘Times Now’ and ‘Star Ananda’ news channels had said their cars were intercepted by armed persons alleged to be CPI(M) cadre, who snatched away cameras, mobile phones and beat them up and abused them. They also smashed the windshields of the cars.
