Goa minor rape case: Third accused remanded to three days police custody

A Judicial Magistrate First Class(JMFC) court here on Sunday remanded Rosy Ferros in police custody for three days, the third accused in the case of trafficking and rape by an MLA, of a minor Nepali girl

She was arrested by the Crime Branch of Goa police on Saturday for allegedly selling a minor Nepali girl to unattached MLA Atanasio Monserrate who is presently in police custody for alleged rape and trafficking of the minor. Mother of the girl is the second accused who is in police custody.

Rosy had surrendered before the Crime Branch on Saturday following which she was arrested and booked for trafficking of the minor girl in connivance with the girl’s mother.

Monserratte and the mother of the victim were arrested on Thursday night and sent in police custody for allegedly “buying” and raping the girl.

The victim, in her complaint to the police, had claimed she was sold by her mother to Monserratte in March for Rs.50 lakh after Ms. Ferros allegedly brokered the deal.

Meanwhile, the accused MLA was subjected to psychiatric tests on Sunday for the second time, the police said.

Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap confirmed that the accused was taken for psychiatric examination at the State-owned Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour at Bambolim in north Goaconsecutively for the second day where various tests were conducted.

He will be produced for extension of remand before the Goa Children’s Court here on Monday, the police officer said.
