April 28, 2016 02:09 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:28 pm IST - SRINAGAR:

Parts of Srinagar were placed under curfew-like restrictions and several separatist leaders were detained on Wednesday to disallow funeral prayers for JKLF founder Amanullah Khan who died in Pakistan on Tuesday.

Concertina wires and barricades were erected in Lal Chowk, where the JKLF proposed funeral prayers. JKLF chief Yasin Malik was arrested.

A march of JKLF activists was foiled. Hurriyat faction chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest.

Hurriyat faction chairman Syed Ali Geelani described the decision as “direct interference in religious affairs.”
