A tribal class V student was allegedly raped by her teacher at the residential Bhaluguda Ashram School in Orissa's Malkangiri district.
Pramod Kumar Samantra (40) was arrested from Nayagarh on Saturday. He was a Shikshya Sahayak teacher posted in the school managed by the State Welfare Board.
According to the police, Samantra, who is married with three children, allegedly lured the girl with the promise of marrying her.
As per the victim's statement, made before the police on Friday, which was considered an FIR, the teacher had been exploiting her since July. The matter came to light when the cook and some other employees of the school brought it to the notice of the headmaster, who informed the District Welfare Officer and Samantra was immediately transferred.
“To spare the girl mental stress, the school authorities silently took up an investigation. After finding out that that the allegations were true, the headmaster and other staff brought the victim to the Malkangiri police station,” said R.K. Pati, inspector in-charge.
