A Class V student of a school in Chinchwad was allegedly beaten up by his class teacher for failing to produce his Aadhaar card. The boy sustained severe leg injuries and had to undergo a surgery at a private hospital on October 5. He was discharged on October 16.
Case lodged
The police said that the incident took place late last month and the parents of the victim filed a complaint against the teacher on Monday. The police said that a case has been lodged against K. Kharath, a teacher at MSS High School, which is run by the Moraya Shikshan Sansthan.
The parents said the school had launched an Aadhaar-linked mobile application system and Mr. Kharath beat up their son for not producing his Aadhaar card. The parents said their son was repeatedly hit on his lower leg and he did not report the incident out of fear. He later opened up when his mother questioned him about the injuries.
Teacher out of town
When the parents confronted Mr. Kharath, he denied hitting their son. The parents said a copy of the Aadhaar card had been submitted to the school along with the admission form. The class teacher was also given a copy of the card.
The police is yet to question the teacher. A senior police officer of Chinchwad police station said, “We visited the teacher’s house, but he has left the town for the Deepavali break. We don’t know the precise nature of the events as the school is also closed now. We are yet to grill Kharath.”
The police have booked a case under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 75 (for cruelty to child) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2015.
