Goa Governor Mridula Sinha said on Tuesday that students in the State should be taught lessons on national leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and fictional characters like Sati Savitri.

She was speaking on the sidelines of Digital Exhibition Uniting India: Sardar Patel, which was held at Goa Science Centre in Miramar.

Ms. Sinha said India would not have been what it was today without the efforts of the country’s first Home Minister. “It is important to teach the stories of leaders like Sardar Patel who have contributed to the making of India. I also believe characters like Sati Savitri should also be taught.

“People know of Savitri as a woman who was loyal to her husband. But look at the poise and wisdom with which she argued with Yamraj, the god of death. Our boys and girls should also be taught about her.”

Ms. Sinha said the students of government schools in Goa will soon be given a diary containing a to-do list, moral science lessons and information on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

“Government school students will be given a special diary. We will prepare it and the government will print it. It will not be a complicated thing, but something which will be simple to understand,” said Ms. Sinha.
