‘Take action against seniors making reckless comments’

Struggling to build cadre base for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections slated for 2017

September 29, 2014 02:31 am | Updated 02:31 am IST - LUCKNOW:

“Out of turn” remarks by senior Congressmen in Delhi are giving sleepless night to the party leaders in Uttar Pradesh as they struggle to build cadre base for the Assembly elections slated for 2017.

They want the party high command to take strict disciplinary action against such leaders to drive the point right to the party’s grassroot level.

This was the main talking point at the meeting of the 30 top State Congress leaders who met here on Sunday to chalk out plans for the next Assembly polls. “Leaders were unanimous in stating that those sitting in Delhi who were reckless in their statements and indulging in indiscipline should be taught a lesson … Such leaders should be shown the door if they fail to mend their ways,” a senior UP Congress leader told The Hindu .

The leaders were also livid over the fact that “outsiders” are preferred over old and committed Congressmen at the time of ticket distribution.
