Irate supporters of former leader of opposition Sudip Roy ransacked Congress Bhavan on Saturday to protest his suspension from party on charge of anti-party activities.

Trouble began after PCC(I) Chief Birajit Sinha addressed a press conference to announce decision of AICC(I) to suspend Mr Barman, who repeatedly lashed out at central leadership for having understanding with CPI(M) in West Bengal assembly elections.

The central leadership also suspended state Youth Congress president Sushanta Choudhury and 13 other office bearers for their ‘indulgence in anti party activity’. They earlier resigned from party positions taking cue of many others to condemn alliance with CPI(M) led left in West Bengal.

PCC Chief Birajit Sinha said AICC(I) Incharge of Northeastern States V. Narayanasamy communicated him the decisions. He said under party constitution and rules the matter concerning Sudip Roy Barman has been referred to the disciplinary action committee for further action.

A large number of supporters of Mr Barman who were staging demonstration suddenly entered two storied Congress Bhavan adjacent to West Agartala Police Station and started ransacking. They broke apart tables, chairs, computers, windowpanes and pulled a huge poster containing images of top party leaders.

Protestors also raised slogans against leaders who allegedly betrayed the party by forging alliance with CPI(M) – main political contender of Congress in Tripura. Senior leaders of party tried best to calm situation without involving police who were deployed outside.
