A jawan of the Chhattisgarh police’s Special Task Force (STF) sustained injuries during an encounter with Maoists in Narayanpur district of south Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

The encounter took place when a joint team of the STF and the District Reserve Guard (Chhattisgarh police’s special Anti-Maoist unit) attacked a Maoist camp in Bhatbeda forest in Orchha area of Naryanpur.

Santosh Singh, Superintendent of Police, Narayanpur district, said: “There was an exchange of fire for over an hour after which the Maoists fled from the spot. STF jawan Antosh Markam sustained injuries during the encounter. He was immediately sent to Raipur by a chopper for treatment,”

“We have recovered Maoist literature, water tanks, solar plates, Maoist uniforms, bullets and IEDs [Improvised Explosive Devices] from the spot of the encounter. The blood stains at the spot suggest that there is a possibility that many Maoists were killed in the encounter,” Mr. Singh added.
