Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday managed to pacify the members of the movement spearheading the cause of  a Special Status for Goa under Article 371 of the Constitution, by forming a legal cell to articulate the proposal to be presented to the Centre.

At a meeting with a delegation of the movement led by Prajal Sakhardande, which also comprised Minister for Environment and Forest Alina Saldanha, at his residence on Tuesday, Mr. Parrikar agreed to form a legal cell which will have members from the movement for special Status and also a couple of government lawyers who will formulate a proposal to be submitted to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi next month in New Delhi.

Mr. Parrikar has assured the movement members that he will seek an appointment with Prime Minister and Home Minister in the first week of  November for an all party delegation which will present their case before them, said a spokesperson of the movement later in the evening.

The movement for a Special Status for Goa has been rooting for a Special Status to protect tiny coastal State’s scarce land and to protect its identity and culture from onslaught of mindless inward migration.
