United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Monday “gifted” the people of her constituency, Rae Bareli, with a FM Rainbow channel, roads and over a dozen bank branches.

Reaching Fursatganj airport in Rae Bareli, she went to Sarai Mugla village and unveiled 12 roads with a total length of 19 km.

Built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), they were built at a cost of Rs. 10 crore.

At a function held at the village, Ms. Gandhi laid the foundation for 45 roads to be built under the PMGSY.

Ms. Gandhi’s next stop was Budhanpur in Amawan block, where she inaugurated the FM Rainbow channel. To be available on 102.8 megahertz (MHz), the FM radio will enable the people of Rae Bareli to listen to entertainment and general awareness programmes.

At a function held at Kathwara village in Harchandpur development block, 13 branches of United Bank of India were inaugurated by Ms. Gandhi.

The branches are located in different parts of Rae Bareli.

Before returning to New Delhi, Ms. Gandhi laid the foundation for the Rae Bareli-Maharajganj-Akbarganj rail line of the Northern Railway. The line will link Rae Bareli with Akbarganj via Maharajganj.

One the project is completed, Maharajganj tehsil of Rae Bareli will figure for the first time on the rail map.
