Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia hit out at the Modi government on International Yoga Day saying that the exercise had no meaning when the country was being “divided” along religious lines.
Mr. Sisodia went on a tweeting spree saying “divisive” politics and drug menace prevailed in the country.
The Deputy CM said that the “people among whom” yoga was being conducted “have been ravaged by the ills of drugs and you all know who is responsible behind this”, in an apparent reference to Punjab.
Questioning the “moral right” of the Centre in spreading yoga while “dismissing” democratically elected governments in the States, Mr. Sisodia, in a series of tweets, said: “Yoga’s international recognition is a matter of pride, but we need to keep in mind that it is not merely a PT exercise to be done in parks and roads."
"Yoga seeks to unite and not divide people. Those who divide the society between Hindus and Muslims can’t be yogis. The world praises our efforts in the field of yoga while also making fun of divisive politics and those who practise it.”
