Shiv Sena MPs on Wednesday celebrated the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by showering rose petals on the statue of the warrior king in the Parliament premises.
Raising slogans of ‘Jai Bhawani, Jai Shivaji’, Sena MPs, including former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi, Sanjay Raut, Subhash Wankhede, Ganesh Dudhgaonkar and Gajanan Babar showered rose petals on the statue.
Later, talking to reporters, Mr. Joshi said that the Shiv Sena had written to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar seeking permission to garland the statue of Shivaji.
“I do not say that permission was denied (by the Speaker). But we have not received the permission so far,” he said.
The birth anniversary of Shivaji was celebrated across Maharashtra on February 19.
