Sharmila back in hospital-jail

Anti-AFSPA champion Irom Sharmila returned here on Tuesday after appearing in a Patiala court in Delhi. She had been charged with attempting to commit suicide by launching a fast unto death at Jantar Mantar in 2006.

On arrival at the Tulihal airport, Ms. Sharmila was taken to her hospital room, which was declared a sub jail, as she had undertaken an indefinite fast since November 4, 2000 demanding repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.In the national capital, she hogged the limelight with over 40 foreign newspapers and electronic media taking her interviews while she stayed in Delhi. She conveyed to journalists her disappointment at people not coming out openly to support her campaign.
