Seven Goa government departmental websites were taken offline on Monday as a precautionary measure with server shut-down based on the advice of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) after some suspicious traffic was detected on the server.

A senior official of the NIC in Goa told The Hindu that no police complaint was lodged with Cyber Police Cell of Goa police as no websites were hacked. There was no defacement. Only as a precautionary measure, the government has been advised to shut-down their websites.

He said that they will be restored in a couple of days.

The websites in question involved those of the Chief Electoral Officer and departments of Land Records, Civil Supplies, State Information Commission and that of a local municipal council.

While, last month Goa Governor’s website was hacked allegedly by some Pakistani hackers, State government portals were also said to have been hacked by a Pakistani cyber-expert early this year when 13 departmental websites maintained by State Information Technology department were defaced.
