SAD, BJP for better coordination

Coordination committee meet held to resolve differences

February 15, 2015 01:34 am | Updated 01:34 am IST - CHANDIGARH:

With the recent violence among their workers in Tarn Taran plunging their relations to a new low, the State-level Coordination Committee of the SAD-BJP alliance on Saturday held a meeting to ensure better coordination among party workers in the ensuing civic polls.

Secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal and Punjab Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema and senior BJP leader Tikshan Sud discussed various issues including better coordination between party workers and office-bearers.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting, Dr. Cheema and Mr. Sud said all the issues had been resolved with mutual understanding.

They said the alliance was working towards ensuring a massive victory in the polls and claimed that there were no differences between party workers and they were contesting the municipal polls jointly.

Referring to the incidents at Tarn Taran, where the BJP had made it clear that it would not contest the polls along with the Akalis following a murderous assault on Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi’s brother there during the scrutiny of the electoral rolls, the two leaders said the local unit would take a decision of contesting polls at its own level while the joint candidates of alliance would be contesting elections in 8 Municipal Corporations and 120 Nagar Councils and Panchayats.

The two leaders also warned that strict disciplinary action would be initiated against those contesting against the joint candidates. They asked all rebel candidates to withdraw nominations by February 16.
