Thirteen sacks, containing skeletons, were found on Wednesday at the Howrah station, near here.
The discovery was made minutes before they were to be loaded on to the parcel van of the Raxaul-bound Mithila Express, Eastern Railway authorities said.
“The parcels were booked by a person named Sudhir Das on Tuesday. The booking document said they contained anatomical research parts that were to be delivered to Muzaffarpur in Bihar. It is a normal process to randomly check parcels through X-ray scanner machines before loading them on a train. This is when the railway personnel realised foul play,” an Eastern Railway spokesperson said.
The personnel subsequently informed the Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police, who seized the sacks.
A forensic team has been asked to examine whether the skeletons are real or fake.
