Kolhapur police on Sunday announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh to any person providing clues or information about the murderers of slain Communist leader Govind Pansare.
"The name of the person will be kept secret," Ritesh Kumar, Inspector-General of Kolhapur range told The Hindu on Sunday.
The announcement comes hours after Pansare succumbed to bullet injuries and took his last breath at a Mumbai hospital on Friday.
State-wide bandh
The Left parties have called for a State-wide bandh on Sunday to protest the murder of the veteran leader.
The bandh has been supported by the Congress, NCP and the Republican Party of India (Athawale).
"It is a shame that progressive leaders like Pansare, who had dedicated their lives for the welfare of the people, are killed like this. There has to be some pressure on the government to act against the killers of such leaders," Nawab Mailk, spokesperson, NCP told The Hindu .
The RPI staged a rasta roko in Chembur in Mumbai. "The bandh has been peaceful so far in the Kolhapur range region," Mr. Kumar said.
