The Rashtriya Janata Dal on Thursday served a show-cause notice on its MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav for his “anti-party activities.”
On Wednesday, Pappu Yadav met the former Chief Minister, Jitan Ram Manjhi, in Patna and appealed to RJD chief Lalu Prasad and JD(U) leader and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to sink their “pride and ego” and invite Mr. Manjhi to the newly formed Janata Parivar.
The RJD has given Mr. Pappu Yadav 15 days to respond to the notice issued by national general secretary Ramdeo Bhandari, party sources said. However, Mr. Pappu Yadav, Madhepura MP, told The Hindu that he was yet to receive the notice, and should he receive it, he would respond to every point raised in it. His wife Ranjit Ranjan is Congress MP from Supaul.
Of late, Mr. Pappu Yadav has been issuing statements against the party line. He has even opposed RJD joining the Janata Parivar. Recently, he said he was the real successor of Mr. Lalu Prasad, who immediately rejected the claim. “Pappu Yadav is not my son. In Indian culture, only a son succeeds his father. After me, my son will succeed me in the RJD instead of Pappu Yadav. If anyone has a problem with this idea, he or she is free to leave the party,” Mr. Prasad said.
