Repoll in six polling stations in Manipur

The Election Commission of India has directed the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur to hold repolls in six polling stations spread in three districts. The election is in the reserve Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency on Wednesday. There have been complaints by the BJP and the Naga People's Front to hold repolls in 65 polling stations alleging booth capturings and tamperings of the EVMs.

The Chief Electoral Officer, O. Nabakishore had sent the reports from the District to the ECI. On the basis of these reports Anuj Jaipuriar, the secretary, ECI sent a message to the Chief Electoral Officer on Friday asking him to hold the repolls on Saturday. The polling stations are Lambung and Moinoi in Chandel district, Sanakeithel in Ukhrul and Keinao Tangkhul, Kapao and Phaibung Khunnou in Senapati district.

The BJP demanded repolls in 56 polling stations saying that rebels had captured the booths. On the other hand the NPF said that EVMs had been tampered with and demanded repolls in eight polling stations.

Official sources said that the polling personnel and police will be sent to these polling stations by Friday night. Besides all police stations and security camps in these areas have been alerted to maintain law and order.
