The father of the five-year-old girl, who was brutalised and raped by two young men, is learnt to have identified one of the policemen who allegedly offered him Rs. 2,000 in hush money.

A team of vigilance officials on Tuesday visited the victim’s parents at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences where she is undergoing treatment. The girl’s father was shown photographs of the policemen deployed at the Gandhi Nagar police station. He reportedly identified one of the policemen from the photographs as the one who offered him Rs.2,000.

The vigilance wing is expected to submit its inquiry report on the allegations by Thursday. The victim’s father had alleged that a man in uniform and another in plainclothes had offered him money to keep his mouth shut. However, some police officers insisted that the policeman had extended monetary help to the family.

On Monday, Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said exemplary action would be taken against the policemen found wanting in performing their duties. “They will be suspended and a vigilance inquiry would be instituted against them. Subsequently, a departmental inquiry would be initiated.”

While the main accused, Manoj Sah (22), is in judicial custody, the second accused Pradeep (19) is in police remand and is being interrogated to verify the statement given by Manoj. The two would then be confronted with each other to cross-check the veracity of the statements made by them.

The inquiry against Assistant Commissioner of Police B. S. Ahlawat, who had slapped a young girl protesting at the Swami Dayanand Hospital, has been referred to the Delhi Government’s Vigilance Department. The ACP’s suspension has been vetted by the Lieutenant-Governor.
