Rajasthan government will introduce a system of self-attestation of documents from January 1 next year.
In an official circular issued here on Monday, the government said the system of self certification of documents was being introduced to make dealing with government agencies simpler.
Rajasthan would be the sixth State after Gujarat, Goa, Kerala, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh to adopt self-attestation system which was mooted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August this year.
A circular issued by the State Administrative Department said “it has been observed that asking for attested documents and affidavits from candidates seeking admission in educational institutions, employment in government departments and benefits under various schemes, consumes lot of time and energy. Therefore, there is a need to simplify the procedures for verification of documents and statements by the candidates to various government departments and local bodies…” Now candidates seeking admission or job in government departments shall be permitted to submit self-attested copies of documents needed to be attached with application. Original certificates or documents shall be called only from finally admitted candidates for verification. Affidavits will only be submitted in those cases, where required as per statutory provisions or existing law, a photograph of the person making the declaration shall be necessarily be affixed on the declaration.
The circular further says action against people wilfully filing wrong declaration has been ensured under section 177, 193, 197, 198, 199 and 200 of the Indian Penal Code. These sections include imprisonment from six months to seven years and a fine, or both.
